About Maria Ortega

Maria Ortega is the Founder and Principal Accountant of Independent Accounting Services, LLC, a remote, bilingual accounting firm serving service-based businesses and individuals. Born in Mexico, Maria began her professional accounting career in Mexicali, where she worked with a CPA firm in the Business Advisory department. There, she applied Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), along with corporate accounting and tax practices, in a public accounting environment. Her experience in Mexico also included corporate accounting and tax work, multi-entity accounting, and senior responsibility within the finance department of a full-service hotel, advancing to an Assistant Controller role prior to immigrating to the United States in 1993. In the United States, she built and contributed experience across agriculture, construction, petroleum operations, and commercial cleaning services, progressing to Accounting Manager roles with multi-entity oversight. Maria holds a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from La Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and obtained the professional designation of Public Accountant.
